Seventh grade science students visited and explored Bay Back Wildlife Refuge. The students got to experience the sound and the beach thru nature walks looking at the different ecosystems. There were numerous plants and animals to identify. They looked at scat and foot prints to determine the wildlife that could be lurking in the park. Even snakes were spotted! They practiced skills relating the Earth's atmosphere and weather systems. While at the park, they took part in measuring the wind, humidity and temperature. They also learned how to find the relative humidity and dew point. The students identified clouds and hypothesized future weather. They discussed wind tides and how Florence had affected the park. The field trip was incredible and educational for all.
Students in Eighth grade Geometry class used their math skills in an unusual way. They gave directions to their peers to draw an image using vocabulary words like "collinear" and "intersecting". These step by step directions helped student build a deeper understanding of the math terms.
